Shot 1
For the first shot we see a horrific close up of a woman that has revolting red blood dripping down her face, a close up shot here gives the audience an eye level view. This makes the audience feel more involved because their getting directly looked at. We also see something stuffed in her mouth which looks like it was forced in. The extreme close up allows the audience to see detailed facial expressions, which shows horror, threat and suspense. The close up is also very good in this shot because it makes the audience feel like the character is looking straight at them with a humble gaze.
This certain shot uses colours which have connotations to Halloween, blood and danger. The colour red refers to blood which we can see on the character, however this can also refer to danger. The colour orange is a connotation of Halloween and pumpkins, this can be quiet a frightening thought for some of the audiences or it can add to the excitement of watching the rest of the film. The dark background creates tension and suspense, making the audience wonder what might be behind the character and the cause of the certain shot.
There are two props/costumes that stand out in this shot, the first one is the blood used which lets the audience know that something has happened or is going to happen. This also tells us that the rest of the film is going to include more blood and gruesome scenes. The second prop used is the object inside her mouth, this exaggerates the effect of the close up composing the main features of the face to stand out.
Non-diegetic sounds have been used which we know that the character cant hear. The music used for this is a well known horror film sound from 'Physco' this builds suspense for the audience because the music was used in a very famous shower scene, where the character is in the shower and someone comes and kills her. The music makes the audience wonder whats going on at that particular time or whats gonna happen next.
The camera shot of a close up uses up most of the space on the scene, however the background isn't shown very clearly and is left blurry.
The character on this shot has been portrayed as someone that's petrified and she doesn't know whats really happening.
The lighting used is like a candle or a torch light which is very dim. The light comes from under the face which creates shadows allowing the audience to see more of the exaggerated features on her face. This kind of lighting is what you would see people doing at sleepovers when they tell scary stories because it refers to that horror theme.
The colours used for the second shot are similar to the colours from the previous shot. We see orange, red, black and white, this again refers back to the concept of Halloween, blood and suspense. The colour white could refer to the stereotypical image of a ghost.
This shot uses a medium shot to give us a wider view of the objects around, This also shows how it goes from a real person to a comic book which might change the seriousness for the audience. This may suggest that the target audience for this film might be younger people.
In this shot we aren't shown much prop apart from the comic book, however we can see that on the page of the comic book, there are blood stains which again refer to danger and shows that something has happened it questions the audience. The long shot used also gives the viewer a wider image of the storyline of the film. The sound is continued from the previous shot this is the 'Physco' sound, this maintains the suspense created earlier on. The sound used again is non-diegetic this is where the characters cant hear it.
The space used is again a close up which focuses on one main comic page, Although we can see other pieces of comic behind but it keeps its main focus by using the image from the previous shot.
We don't really get shown actual people but we see drawing/pictures of people on the comic most of them are portrayed as endangered or frightened by something or by a certain activity.
Orange coloured lights look like dimmed candle lights which seems darker then it should be, this refers to the colour black and creates questions in the audiences head.
Shot 3
The colours used are similar again Black and orange colours refer back to Halloween and dark suspense.
This shot uses a close up to show detail which maybe harder to see in a long shot. With the close up we are able to see a image of a little boy in the top left hand side of the page.
This uses non-diegetic sound that slowly changes from the Physco music to a sort of shocking loud sound (when the trick r treat sign comes up).
The shot focuses again on just one main image to direct attention. We don't see any specific characters but we see a child because children are venerable and the child looks like he's in danger.
The lettering used looks like they are set a lite or on sparks, this can be a connotation of Halloween because people tend to light pumpkins with fire as park of the celebration decoration.
The lettering also is shown as having some lower case lettering and some higher which can mean a child has wrote it or it refers back to the child in the corner of the page, making it look like its something got to do with him. Orange fiery lights are used to emphasise the Halloween theme created, the Halloween theme is shown throughout the comic which draws attention to the venerable child.
Shot 4
The colours used in this shot is again orange and black this continues the Halloween theme that is used throughout the whole opening credit, this might be telling us that the films going to be based on a Halloween theme and these are the colours that might be used continuously.
A lower camera angle is used to make the house look bigger and makes it seem like the audience is looking up at the house. This makes it look like somethings wrong with the house.
We can see pumpkins and sparkling lights that have a connotation with Halloween, This refers back to them wanting to continue the Halloween theme through. We also can see black tree's although the tree has no leaves on it, it just seems to be branches.
The music used is non-diegetic, this sounds like a orchestra or a suspicious violin.
The space that is used in this shot shows the setting and objects surrounding the house and the other obvious props.
The writing font used here is quiet standard, however the font here is giving us the address or location of the house. This makes the audience wonder maybe if that address/location really exists.
We cant see any specific lightings used but we can see the orange lights coming from the lit pumpkins and other sparkling lights around the props in the shot.
Here we are clearly shown the Halloween theme this is portrayed by the connotations such as the pumpkins, sparks which might refer to bonfires and darkness.
Shot 5
In this shot the colours black is used, however we also see some light that is used to create shadow and make the character look anonymous and mysterious. The colour black also has a connotation of evil or suspense. The darkness can portray or tell us that anything can be behind that certain darkness.
A high camera angle is used to create a shadow that makes the character look bulky and gasps the audiences attention, this is done because then viewers will be willing to watch on to find out who it is and what happens next. The character and the setting creates questions.
We aren't shown many props however we can see that there are leafs on the ground and the ground looks wet, this may suggest that its a dark Autumn or winter night.
We can hear diegetic footprint sounds which again creates suspense, this is because we are shown different people and their feet. The music builds the suspense then slowly drops it.
The space used on this shot is all black/dark with a bit of light to create the shadows.
The actors has been portrayed as a mysterious person because we aren't shown the face just foot and them dragging a bag, which can have anything inside it.
the type of lighting used here is light coming from a certain angle/area this helps to make the shadow look in a certain way and might make the character look more powerful.
